  Immunology/Virology

I am working with Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV) (cold sore virus).  My project is looking at the affect that HSV has on particular molecules of the immune system.  I want to see if the presence of the virus causes an increase/decrease of a part of the immune system called cytokines.  There are many different cytokines which have many different functions in the immune system.  Another part of my experiment involves nicotine.  Nicotine has been shown to suppress the immune system and I want to see what happens the to levels of cytokines when nicotine and HSV is present.
