Students in Strategic Management
Consult with Real Organizations
Students in the Strategic Management class get an opportunity to
experience first-hand what it is like to consult with real organizations
on issues that are important to the growth, or even survival, of those
organizations.
The approach used in this
hands-on, action-based learning course is to put students into teams of
consultants who then prepare strategic plans for organizations in the
communities served by ASU. These consultants analyze the internal and
external environments of these organizations and develop objectives and
strategies to help insure continued success of each of them. And, in the
process, because they are working in teams, they also learn valuable
lessons on group-think, teamwork, cooperation and how to deal with
diversity of opinion and behavior.
This experience,
according to many graduates, has been the competitive edge for them in
getting jobs over students who have not had these real-life, real-time,
real-consequences experiences.
