The University
There are many reasons to
study abroad at the Université de Cergy-Pontoise. The most important is
that your French will improve dramatically from daily use. You will be
able to take special French classes for non-native speakers. You can also take
regular classes taught in
English alongside French students. Such classes include history, geography, political science, and others. You can
stay on track for graduation by taking courses approved by your advisor.
English and Applied Foreign Languages are two of the largest majors at
Cergy, so there will be many people you can turn to as you become
proficient in French.

For Fun
Cergy-Pontoise is a small
city outside of Paris. The town has a nice park with a popular windsurfing
pond. There are also sports teams including soccer, basketball, and
tennis. Of course there are student parties and get togethers. However the
best way to have fun in Cergy-Pontoise is to participate in the French
national pastime of sitting in cafés with friends chatting and watching
the world go by.
Culture
Pontoise is a medieval town
with a cathedral dating from 1228. It also boasts the Camille Pissarro
museum. Art lovers can explore some of the scenes that inspired Van Gogh,
Monet, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Of course it is France so the food,
wine, and art are some of the best in the world.
|
Outside Cergy-Pontoise |
 |
Paris, The City of
Lights, is just a 45 minute train ride away, convenient enough for
weekend visits. |
 |
See the Louvre, the
Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Champs
Élysées. |
 |
Take a boat tour of the
Seine, wander through art galleries, or enjoy centuries-old public
gardens. |
 |
The French Riviera is
only hours away by train. |
 |
Rent a car for the
weekend and drive out to the Brittany coast. |
 |
See the French
countryside.
